Supporting Farmers Sustainably
We’re committed to making a positive impact on climate, nature and livelihoods. As part of the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP), we’ve been working on Sustainable Basmati Production. The initiative improves the livelihoods of farmers in our direct value chain, whilst also producing pesticide residue free rice for export markets since 2019. In 2023 the project covered over 5,000 acres of land in Haryana.
The project is built on key on-the-ground partnerships with international agencies such as International Financial Corporation (IFC) for capacity building and technical inputs, public sector agencies such as National Rural Livelihood Mission for promotion of women empowerment, private partnerships with Bayer Crop Science for safe pesticide usage, Netafim for improved irrigation technologies and TraceX Technologies for end-to-end digital traceability.
The project has led to water savings of at least 5 billion litres in two years from 2019-2021 due to the adoption of alternative wetting and drying, whilst also ensuring the training of at least 1500 smallholders on the adoption of climate-smart rice cultivation over the last three years.
